Fuquay-Varina

In the 1800’s, this bedroom community was originally Fuquay Springs, named for the “healing” properties of a mineral spring discovered by Stephen Fuquay. Thanks to the spring and the curious visitors who flocked here seeking its “powers,” a resort village quickly sprouted, bringing an economic boon to the area. But the boon died off in the 1920’s, when the visitors became curious in the nearby Carolina coastline instead. Much later, in 1963, Fuquay Springs merged with nearby Varina to officially become Fuquay-Varina. Today, the area maintains its village-like appeal with its quaint downtown shopping district and hometown environment throughout the community. It is situated in Southern Wake County, just 15 minutes outside of Raleigh.

Known for its wide-open spaces and rural feel, the area is also home to over 20 major manufacturers and corporations. Population is about 9,000 here, and Fuquay-Varina has a 50-50 growth rate with taxes shared equally with business and industry, not placed entirely on the shoulders of home owners. This may explain why townspeople here are known for their outgoing personalities– or perhaps it’s the family-friendly atmosphere and activities that keep residents so happy.
